Valuable Website ... revolutionarywarnewjersey.com

Website - www.revolutionarywarnewjersey.com

I can’t say enough about this particular website describing New Jersey’s Revolutionary War history.  While known as the “Crossroads of the Revolution” few Americans, and sadly, few New Jersey residents, know the stories of the men and women and events which impacted our State and ultimately our Nation's victory and the freedom they fought and died for.

New Jersey’s role, as well as General George Washington’s leadership within the state during the US Revolutionary War (1775-1783), cannot be overstated. The two memorable and critical battles of Trenton on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in December 1776, as well as his follow-up victory at the Battle of Princeton in January 1777, convinced the American Congress as well as the British Crown and a French King, (and Dutch financiers) that the American Revolutionary cause was not a fluke and could not be easily dismissed.

But did you know that eight (8) major Revolutionary War battles were fought in New Jersey including Red Bank, Princeton, Trenton, Monmouth, Springfield, Connecticut Farms (Union), Fort Lee and Bound Brook?

And besides these major battles, did you know that there were many, many skirmishes and fire-fights between Loyalist and Patriot, between Militia and Continentals, German Hessian Mercenaries and British Regulars?

Did you know that at this early stage of NJ fighting in 1776-1777, NJ was almost two thirds Loyalist, devoted to King George of England?

And did you know that many of the "Jersey Dutch" farmers and land owners as well as many Reformed Pastors in Passaic and Bergen Counties were fiercely in favor of revolution and independence?

... and so, so much more...

This web-site includes brief descriptions and pictures of New Jersey Revolutionary War sites and event histories in pictures, plaques, short biographies and excellent footnote references for each of New Jersey’s 21 counties.

By perusing through this site, you will be as impressed as I was to learn about many of the local homes and families who contributed to New Jersey's rich historical heritage.
